A new experimental treatment using a stem cell-based infusion has shown remarkable success in a small clinical trial. Out of 12 patients with the most severe form of type 1 diabetes, 10 no longer needed insulin injections after the treatment. The therapy appears to help the body start producing insulin on its own again.
While this is not a universal cure yet, and the treatment may not be suitable for patients with more manageable forms of the disease, it's a breakthrough. The treatment could soon be mass-produced and made globally accessible — a potential game-changer for millions living with type 1 diabetes.
